Solar PV Installation – The Oysterfleet Hotel
Along with our provider Dynamic Energy Solutions, a substantial solar project was completed for The Oysterfleet Hotel. Our case study for this project can be seen below.
We have been advising Oysterfleet Plc since 2011 on all energy matters. With the hotel being a 24/7 operation, it was important for us to advise on best energy practices and modern energy efficiency technologies.
With The Oysterfleet Hotel’s interest for solar first initiated in late 2022 and with the on-going global energy crisis, it was important that energy consumption and cost could be reduced. The culmination was that a 48.45 kW roof-mounted system was installed.
Framework – Week 1
Firstly, all required framework was needed for safe installation. This included scaffolding across all areas of the hotel where panels were to be installed. In which the process took a number of days to complete, due to the large amount of equipment delivered. Lastly, the panel mounts were installed in order to hold the panels in place.
Installation – Week 1
In total there were 115 different solar modules to be installed across the hotel. The right-hand side of the hotel was the first section to be installed. It was important to ensure that all panels were positioned correctly to maximise the amount of energy absorbed and generated. At the end of week one, the three larger sectioned roofs were almost completely covered with panels.
Installation – Week 2
Overall, the solar project could be described as being split across six different roofs. Three larger roofs on the right-hand side of the building, with the remaining three areas located near the entrance of the hotel. The entrance of the hotel was the last area for panels to be installed due to the busy occupancy of the hotel’s 24/7 operation. After all panels were installed, we were now close for on-site electricity generation to be officially present.
Installation – Week 3
To conclude, the final few stages involved securing the electrical wiring and the solar inverters. In total, four different inverters were installed. The hotel’s first full day of on-site generation was on Tuesday 27th June 2023. Just in time for the most optimal time of the year for production performance and the hotel’s busiest period.
Data Analysis
All four inverters had dataloggers present in order for full visibility of the solar’s output to be analysed. The data comparison between the previous year and total electricity generation from the solar panels can be viewed below.
